Desert Alchemy: A Mixed Media Celebration of the Southwest

Mixed Media Workshop | Approx. 3–4 Hours

An Immersive Southwest Mixed Media Art Experience

Join me, Leslie Clarke, artist/owner of Le French Hen for Desert Alchemy, a richly layered mixed media workshop celebrating the beauty, texture, and spirit of the Southwest. In this special art experience, we’ll transform a large 16"x12" wood canvas into a one-of-a-kind desert-inspired piece using paper, paint, natural textures, metallic accents, resin elements, fibers, and earthy layered finishes inspired by the Sonoran landscape.

Designed for intermediate creatives or adventurous beginners ready to explore beyond the basics, this workshop focuses on intuitive layering, organic composition, and storytelling through texture and found elements. Expect weathered desert vibes, warm earthy tones, touches of shimmer, and plenty of creative freedom.

Students will explore techniques including:

  • Layered mixed media composition
  • Incorporating natural and textured elements
  • Resin embellishments & dimensional details
  • Dry brushing, aging, and metallic highlighting
  • Creating depth and movement through collage and texture

Each guest will leave with a beautifully finished 16”x12” wood canvas artwork inspired by the magic of the desert Southwest.
